The Tegal Linggah Cliff Temple is a beautiful hidden temple situated in the cliffside of the Pakerisan River, located near the Kanto Lampo waterfall in Bali. It’s the perfect place to visit if you want to escape the crowds of tourists and comes with a rich history.
The temple is covered in moss, with butterflies and dragonflies flitting around the area. There are many interesting areas to climb and explore with staircases leading to different levels of the structure despite being a small temple.

Temple History
After talking to the locals who managed the entrance to the temple, they told us it was 1000 years old! A bit of googling confirms this story as the temple is estimated to have been built in the 12th Century AD during the Bedahulu Kingdom. This temple is an amazing landmark of cultural and historical heritage.

Getting to the Temple Entrance
3 Options
- Gojek
- Taxi
- Personal Driver
You can take a Gojek/Taxi/Personal Driver to the entrance of the temple. From there you’ll need to walk down to the temple.
I recommend using a driver if you’re not staying near the Tegallinggah Cliff Temple. There are two parking lots where they can wait while you’re down on the beach. My personal recommendation is Bali The Best I Nyonman Edi Suryawan.
He’s a very friendly driver and will talk to you all day about Bali and it’s history. We mentioned we wanted to see more local places and he made sure that on his trips he drove us through local towns and markets rather than past the big tourist spots!

Getting To The Tegal linggah Cliff Temple

Upon reaching the entrance to the temple, there’s a booth to buy a ticket to enter. Also note that this is the last time you can use the toilet before entering the temple!
To reach the temple, turn left at the ticket booth an continue to walk straight util you reach a staircase. Follow this staircase all the way to the bottom where you’ll find the breathtaking remains of the temple.
Spend time taking pictures and exploring the area before heading back up!
